I read chapter 7 of Animal Farm by George Orwell. In this chapter the animals struggle to rebuild the windmill and later fall short of food. In order to feed the animals, Napoleon contracts to sell four hundred eggs a week. Soon afterward, the animals hear, to their extreme dismay, that Snowball has been visiting the farm at night, in secret, and sabotaging the animals' efforts. Napoleon says that he can detect Snowball's presence everywhere, and whenever something appears to go wrong by chance, Snowball receives the blame. And that is a summary of what happened in this chapter.

I read chapter 6 of Animal Farm by George Orwell. In this chapter the animals work at a backbreaking pace for the rest of the year to farm enough food for themselves and to build the windmill. Although their work is strenuous, the animals suffer no more than they had under Mr. Jones. They have enough to eat and can maintain the farm grounds easily now that humans no longer come to cart off and sell the fruits of their labor. Mr. Whymper begins paying a visit to the farm every Monday, and Napoleon places orders with him for various supplies. And this is a summary of what happens in the sixth chapter.

I read chapter 4 of Animal Farm by George Orwell. In this chapter news of Animal Farm had spread across half the county. A flight of pigeons alerts Animal Farm that Mr. Jones has begun marching on the farm with some of Pilkington's and Frederick's men. Snowball, who has studied books about the battle campaigns of the renowned Roman general Julius Caesar, prepares a defense and leads the animals in an ambush on the men. The animals discover Mr. Jones's gun where he dropped it in the mud. They place it at the base of the flagstaff, agreeing to fire it twice a year on October 12th, the anniversary of the Battle of the Cowshed and on Midsummer's Day, the anniversary of the Rebellion. This is a summary of what happened in the fourth chapter.

I read chapter 3 of Animal Farm by George Orwell. In this chapter the animals spend a laborious summer harvesting in the fields. The pigs think of ways for the animals to use the humans' tools, and every animal participates in the work. Every Sunday, the animals hold a flag-raising ceremony. The flag's green background represents the fields of England, and its white hoof and horn symbolize the animals. The morning rituals also include a democratic meeting, at which the animals debate and establish new policies for the collective good. At the meetings, Snowball and Napoleon always voice the loudest opinions, though their views always clash. This is a summary of what happened in the third chapter.

I read chapter 2 of Animal Farm by George Orwell. In this chapter Old Major dies. He died in his sleep three nights after his speech. For three months the animals make secret preparations to carry out the old pig's dying wish of gaining control of the farm from Mr. Jones. The work of teaching and organizing falls to the pigs, the cleverest of the animals, and especially to two pigs named Napoleon and Snowball. Together with a silver-tongued pig named Squealer, they formulate the principles of a philosophy called Animalism, the fundamentals of which they spread among the other animals. The animals call one another “Comrade” and take their quandaries to the pigs, who answer their questions about the Rebellion. The pigs' most troublesome opponent is Moses, the raven. One day, Mr. Jones goes on a drinking binge and forgets to feed the animals. They couldn't stand their hunger, the cows break into the store shed and the animals begin to eat. Mr. Jones and his men discover the transgression and begin to whip the cows. This made them angry, the animals turn on the men, attack them, and easily chase them from the farm. This is a summary of what happened in the second chapter

For my second outside reading book, I am reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. So far I have read chapter one. This book is about a bunch of farm animals on the Manor farm. Old Major, a prize boar and pillar of the animal community, gave a speech to all of the animals about how they life a sad life. He explains that they are locked up in a barn all their lives and then end up as food. He talks about dreams he has had, teaches them songs, and they start thinking of plans to stop this and make their lives better. After Old Major's speech they all went back into their places in the barn and fell asleep. This is a short summary of what happened in teh first chapter.

National hero of the year

National hero of the year is a very important role. I think that the hero should be someone that has gone through alot and has many strengths. I endorse Odysseus for national hero. I endorse him because he is able to survive anything and is very strong and never gives up. He has survived through shipwrecks and wars. Also being shipwrecked on a island, as shown by the quote "But my hear break for Odysseus the seasoned veteran cursed by fate so long-far from his loved ones still..off on a wave washed island rising at the center of the sea...Atlas daughter who hold Odysseus captive" (1.56-75) This quote tells about how Odysseus gets ship wrecked on an island ruled by a god who wants to marry him. He refuses, and intends to wait for his death before he would do that and because of his wife. This demonstrates hero like characteristics in several ways. First he is strong, because he survives shipwrecks and wars. Secondly he sticks by his ideals. Instead of marrying the goddess, and getting out the easy way, Odysseus sticks with his wife and shows loyalty. He also wins wars such as the Trojan wars. This is shown by the quote "once he(Odysseus) had plundered the hallowed height of Troy"(1.2-3) This is an important characteristic of heroes. It shows many strengths, such as intelligence and many other characteristics. These are some reasons on why Odysseus would make a great national hero of the year. Vote Odysseus 08!
