National hero of the year
National hero of the year is a very important role. I think that the hero should be someone that has gone through alot and has many strengths. I endorse Odysseus for national hero. I endorse him because he is able to survive anything and is very strong and never gives up. He has survived through shipwrecks and wars. Also being shipwrecked on a island, as shown by the quote "But my hear break for Odysseus the seasoned veteran cursed by fate so long-far from his loved ones still..off on a wave washed island rising at the center of the sea...Atlas daughter who hold Odysseus captive" (1.56-75) This quote tells about how Odysseus gets ship wrecked on an island ruled by a god who wants to marry him. He refuses, and intends to wait for his death before he would do that and because of his wife. This demonstrates hero like characteristics in several ways. First he is strong, because he survives shipwrecks and wars. Secondly he sticks by his ideals. Instead of marrying the goddess, and getting out the easy way, Odysseus sticks with his wife and shows loyalty. He also wins wars such as the Trojan wars. This is shown by the quote "once he(Odysseus) had plundered the hallowed height of Troy"(1.2-3) This is an important characteristic of heroes. It shows many strengths, such as intelligence and many other characteristics. These are some reasons on why Odysseus would make a great national hero of the year. Vote Odysseus 08!
