I just read section one of Night by elie wiesel. It talked alot about the background of it and of the main character and more about what is to expect from the book. The main character in this book is Eliezer he is a 12 year old boy that lives in the Transylvanian town of sighet. He has 2 older sisters and a younger sister and his family is an orthodox jewish family that follows the jewish tradition and law very strictly and his parents are shop keepers. Eliezer studies the jewish oral law, Talmud and he studies the jewish mystical texts of the cabbala. Some events/things that happen in section one are that Eliezer finds a teacher, the Hungarian government falls into the hands of the facists and then the German armies occupy Hungary, and the Nazis began to deport the jews in increments, and Eliezer's family is the last to leave Sighet. Those are some of the things that went on in this section.
